Fruited Range

We bake rich fruit loaves, Barmbracks and Hot cross buns at the Ormo Bakery. All are best enjoyed buttered with a great cup of tea!

Did you Know

  • The difference between a sultana and a raisin is a sultana is lighter in colour and it is not dried as long as a raisin
  • Barmbrack was traditionally at the centre of Irish Halloween custom.
Traditionally objects were baked into the bread and were said to carry a significant message for the person who came across them. A pea indicated the person would not marry within the year, a piece of cloth indicated bad luck, a ring meant a wedding within the year and a coin signified good fortune. At Ormo today we are a bit more politically correct that to
suggest the fortune of an individual (not to mention health & safety conscious) so we just concentrate on putting good ingredients into our Brack. Neither tradition nor taste are compromised!'
